  • To Zachary (Malaysia) Being kind to those who play pranks on you probably doesn't seem right. Surely that would encourage them to keep doing it. And besides, that's probably the last thing you feel like doing. But Jesus said, "Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you" Luke 6:28. And in Romans 12:20, Paul tells us that by doing good to our enemies, it is like heaping burning coals on them. The Lord will repay your enemies for what they are doing. So, do what Paul says: "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" Romans 12:21.

  • To Elianya (USA) - What you did for the little girl who has cancer is show that you care. She will probably never know the people who helped pay for her to get better, but God has seen your kindness. Sometimes, all the Lord wants (and what makes Him very happy) is for us to do what we can (see Mark 12:41-44). Way to go!!

  • To Bella (USA) - We usually become angry when we feel frustrated, or when we feel that we've been treated unfairly. When things frustrate us, or when people irritate us, we start becoming annoyed. That's when we should look for ways to avoid our anger building up to the point where we can't control it. However, if we do "lose it," we should apologize immediately and accept our discipline graciously. That's pretty tough, but it's the only way to break the cycle of anger. Try to be kind and helpful too; that will help you have a good attitude, and others will see that you are doing your best.

  • To Ransley (USA) - Praying that you will be able to focus on your work, understand things better and remember all you need to know. Hang in there... you'll be okay!

  • To Luna (USA) - It's pretty hard not to do or say anything when others call you names. But the Bible says; "Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing" 1 Peter 3:9. For now, try to ignore the name-calling and don't let it get to you. Maybe those who call you names will get bored and eventually stop.

  • To Kaidence (USA) - So sorry to hear about your mom. We pray that she will keep contact with you and that you will be able to meet up with her again some time. Ask the Lord to help you through this time of hurting, and that you will be able to forgive and love those who have hurt you. You could write your thoughts and feelings in a letter and then just keep it. That will help you work through the hurtful feelings inside. Tell the Lord what's on your heart, and remember that He will always be there for you.

  • To Juniper (USA) - The first thing you need to tell yourself is that you are not a weirdo because you believe in God. You are God's child - a princess of the Most High King. As difficult as it is to take a stand for what you believe, that is what we are called to do. "Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord... I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty" 2 Corinthians 6:17-18. We pray that the Lord will give you the courage to stay on the winning side and that you will have the right words to say to your friends.

  • To Jurene (Indonesia) - May the Lord bless you on your first VBS - very exciting!! We pray that Jesus will become very real to you during this time. Remember that you can talk to Him like a friend.

  • To Elianya (USA) - People make mistakes because the first man Adam decided to use his freedom of choice to sin against God. Although the first man was created perfect, we are no longer perfect because of the sin nature within us. Even though we are made in the image of God and have the characteristics of God, we are imperfect and that's why we make mistakes, especially if we do not obey God or walk in His ways. Every sin we do is a deliberate choice we make. The devil can only tempt you to do wrong - he cannot force you to sin; and if you are a child of God, he has NO power over you.

Sometimes we need to work at relationships, especially with those closest to us. We will pray about that and for those other struggles. Also praying for the friends you are reaching for Christ. The Lord is patient and will work in His time. Just be a loyal friend and keep shining for Jesus. You're doing great!

It may not always seem like fun, but if we don't read the Bible, we become spiritually unfit and we never really get to know God better. Yet, by asking the Lord to speak to you through the Bible, His Spirit can make His word become exciting, and meaningful to your life.

  • To Elianya (USA) - We sometimes worry and become anxious because we imagine all sorts of bad things that could happen, only to find that they didn't happen after all. When we are afraid we should remember that we are precious to the Lord and that He keeps watch over us all the time. Even David who was brave enough to go fight Goliath was afraid sometimes. But he prayed to God, and this is what he said, "When I am afraidI will trust in you" Psalm 56:3.

However, we should pray about our problems, and in that way show that we believe that God is in control of our lives. By praying we also show that we have faith that He can help us.

  • To Charis (USA) - Probably your disagreements at home make you feel guilty, unloved and unaccepted, and the devil uses those feelings to make you think (or feel) that God doesn't love you either. The truth is that it doesn't matter whether you feel God's love or not, He loves you as a person. He knows your name, your circumstances, your likes and dislikes, your challenges and frustrations. He made you, and you are very special to him. The troubled times you are going through are just for a season. So ask the Lord to bring peace to your heart so that you can focus on growing in Him and not be sidetracked by the obstacles the devil is putting in your path. Remember, God has a very special plan and purpose for your life - focus on that!

Remember that even if we give a cup of water to someone because we love Jesus, He will reward us. Keep storing up heavenly treasure by doing good. (See 1 Peter 3:12-14).

When you are tempted to say the wrong thing, think of your heart and what it looks like when you sin. It is far better to be honest and tell the truth than try and cover up so you won't be found out (That's what King David realized - Psalm 32:5).

But Jesus did say, "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you." Think of what they did to Jesus. (He never hurt anyone and only did good to others, yet people mistreated Him and even killed Him.)

  • To Tirzah (USA) - Praying for your emotional protection and also that your children will be covered by God's amazing grace. The Lord is your fortress and your hiding place when you need to withdraw and be alone with Him - to be in a place when you can pour out your heart, and your tears (Psalm 31:1-3). In prayer for you and your family.

  • To Jordan (USA) - Your letter made me sad for you, but also very happy that you know the Lord and love Him, even when the rest of your family doesn't (I don't even know how that happens). You are blameless and pure, a child of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like a star in the universe (Philippians 2:15). You are a bright shining light in a very dark world, and obviously you have been noticed by those who prefer the dark. Remember, "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven.." Matthew 5:11-12. Underline that in your Bible. Will be praying that you will remain strong. Please keep in touch.

Perhaps you could casually mention something about what you do on a Sunday, or that you pray about your problems etc. If your friend then asks questions about your faith, you know that he doesn't feel threatened by what you believe, and then you can tell him as much as he wants to know. The Holy Spirit will convict him of his need for forgiveness - all you have to do is point him to Jesus.

  • Elianya (USA) - Be encouraged by the progress you are making, but keep on wanting to be more like Jesus. None of us are perfect but it is up to us to change our ways. God doesn't control what we do, and don't do, as if we are robots. When we ask God to help us, He gives us the will to do so. In other words, the more we love Him and others (which is a command), the more the Holy Spirit has to work with in order to change our attitudes.

  • To Abigail (South Africa) - Not sure how long ago this happened, but you will have a feeling of emptiness and sadness and, perhaps, abandonment for a long time. On the surface you have learned to live a normal life; that is why you are not so very sad all the time. That is okay because life carries on and you need to get through this. Yet, not too far under the surface, there is deep sadness, and that sadness is there because you love your dad so much. Sometimes you may even feel angry when he isn't there for you, but ask the Lord to help you forgive him so that you will never become bitter. Praying for you!!!

  • To Maggie (Canada) - We pray that the Lord will become very real to your sister and draw her back to Himself. Keep praying for her and expect the Lord to answer your prayers - even if you need to keep praying for a long, long time. Remember, the Lord is very patient and merciful.

We pray that the Lord will use you to be His messenger of hope at a time when there seems to be no hope. May you feel the Lord's arms holding you as He comforts you with His love.

  • To Emilio (USA) - Praying that the Lord will be very close to you and comfort you when you are sad about your grandma. It's okay to be sad - even Jesus was sad when His friend Lazarus died. That's why He understands what it is like to be sad. But He told us that He would send us the Comforter (the Holy Spirit), and that's why we can ask Him to comfort us in our sadness.

Even though you are hurting, you have a forgiving heart, and that will help you to be stronger and be a blessing to the others. May the Lord be gracious to your dad and make his heart soft towards you and your mom. "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds" Psalm 147:3.

  • To Elianya (USA) - Because your sister is younger than you, she's probably discovered that the only way to get to you is by saying mean things when no one else is around to hear. When you react to what she says, she realizes that her tactic is working (she is upsetting you). Try to be calm and ignore mean remarks (as if you didn't hear them), but in your heart, forgive her. And if you do need to respond to her, remember: " A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" Proverbs 15:1

  • To Sydney (USA) - It's so awesome to hear how you are growing in your faith. We all keep on learning new things about the Lord and about ourselves. It's also exciting to hear about the new youth pastor. We know you will learn so much (and have lots of fun). Glad that you have a new devotional, but we'd still like to hear from you from time to time. Bless you!!

  • To Braedan (USA) - The Lord loves you so much, and you are very special to Him. He sees your struggles, and He knows how hard you try. Keep up the good work, and we'll be praying that you will surprize everyone with your God-given abilities. Remember, with the Lord on your side, you've got a lot more going for you than those who don't know Him. Paul said, "Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong" 1 Corinthians 1:26-27.

  • To Shelley (USA) - Our imaginations are very powerful and can cause us to have anxious, scary thoughts. And even when we tell ourselves that it isn't real, we still feel that anxiety deep down. Our thoughts use what we've seen, heard and experienced to feed our imaginations. And so for example, when we watch a scary movie, we may continue to think about it, and some of the scenes will feed our imaginations. Because our minds are so powerful, Paul said, "Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things" Philippians 4:8. In other words, when we fill our minds with good things, and we see and hear things that are beautiful, our thoughts (and imaginations) will use what we've programmed into your minds.     Did you know, the Lord has an angel who looks after you! (Matthew 18:10). It's not that the Lord is not able to do so, but its like He wants heavenly beings to watch over His precious ones. In fact, the Lord Himself watches over you all the time: "The LORD will keep you from all harm--he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going [day and night] both now and forevermore" Psalm 121:8. Next time you struggle to fall asleep, just start talking to Jesus until you do.

In answer to your question; how we grieve is different for each person. Healing takes place in different ways, depending on things like, our relationship with that person and our personality. Some might even cry months or years later because of a memory or because they're feeling particularly sad at that moment.

    The best way to shine for Jesus—so that your friends will want to know Him too—is to walk in the ways you have been taught, and not judge them. Also, pray for them, and pray that you will have the opportunity to tell them about Jesus and perhaps invite them to your church. You could also write some special verses on a little card for them. We pray that the Lord will use you and bless you in a big way this year.

And so, when we imagine the Lord watching us, and we're about to do or say something wrong, we stop and think, "Hang on, I want to please Jesus in this situation and I will not give in to the devil again."

Esther, an orphan girl who was adopted by her uncle, wasn't only beautiful, she had a gentle, submissive heart. God decided to use her in a wonderful way, and she became a queen who saved her people from certain death. God has a special plan for you too.

But understandably, because we are human, we become irritated, angry, sad and discouraged. 

    We pray that the Lord will help you through your trial, and that through it, you will become like pure gold (Job 23:10). "These trials will show that your faith is genuine. They will stand before the Lord one day and answer to Him for everything they have said and done.   • To Sydney (USA) - Your first question is difficult to answer in general because "The Lord knows those who are His" 2 Tim. 2:19, and although we may have been raised in a specific church, it is our faith—and the Lord's grace—that saves us (Ephesians 2:8).

    It is wonderful that you have so many Catholic friends, and you should invite all who may want to come to this event. If they believe already, their belief will be strengthened; if they don't, they will be challenged. Maybe, at the right time, you could ask your friends what they believe one needs to do to get to heaven. That will help you understand what they believe as individuals, and perhaps give you the opportunity to tell them what you believe. May your love draw them to Jesus!

  • To Ashlyn (USA) - God wants us to have faith in Him - that's what pleases Him most ("Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him" Hebrews 11:6). If we could hear Him (or see Him) we would not need to have faith. Many would say, "If I could see Jesus I would believe." Yet, when Jesus was on earth, few believed that Jesus was the Son of God. Even His disciples had their doubts. This is what Jesus said to Thomas: "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

    If you find it hard to believe in God, keep reading the Bible because "Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ" Romans 10:17.

  • To Gabby (USA) - Hmmm - that's a tough situation to be in! There's not much you can do now except obey willingly. One day you'll be free to make your own decisions. Your personality is part of the way God has made you, and the way you act is usually linked to your personality. It's not easy to change that, and even if you did, it wouldn't be the real you. Only, make sure that the way you act honors the Lord.

But the Lord has graciously brought them together again, and if He could do that, He can also keep them together. The fact that you don't like the boy will make the evening awkward for both of you. Jesus said that we should love one another, and you can do that in different ways at a different time. The Lord has given us the freedom to choose. To love is not a choice—it's a command. Deciding who to go with is your choice, and by living a life that honors the Lord, He will honor that decision.

    Regarding your mom, the Lord wants us to honor (love and obey) our parents. Respect your mon's decision, even when she changes her mind. If she has forgotten about what she said the first time, it may be because she was focusing on something else at the time and didn't actually think about what you were asking. Maybe next time, after she's given you permission to do something, you could say, "Mom, so you are sure this is okay with you?"

So, even though we may want to change unpleasant things and people, sometimes the Lord uses them to change us.

  • To Macy (USA) - To answer your question "Why does God keep on making people if they sin," read the parable of the weeds and the good seed in Matthew 13:24-30. If God had to stop planting good seed because of the weeds that come up as well, there would be nothing more to harvest. So God allows the world to continue—and for there to be more and more people—because it means that more people are added to His Kingdom. 

    God's plan is that, one day, there will be no more sin. We will be perfect and sinless when we are with Him in heaven. But for now, we grow with the weeds all around us, and by being rooted in Him we will not be choked by sin but, instead, bear more good seed (Matthew 13:23).

    If God had to force you to do things, it would be like your mom telling you to do things all day, every day. But when you are free to choose and you say to your mom, "I'd like to help you," it helps you to love your mom even more.

  • To David (USA) - Struggling to focus in Sunday school (or ordinary school) is not a sin. Some just find it more difficult to follow the lesson than others do. There are, however, a few things you can try in order to sharpen your attention. You could ask questions at an appropriate time; you could look up verses that are referred to; you could write some notes... and if you're feeling drowsy, wiggle your toes. Sometimes, though, your mind may be overactive and perhaps you start thinking of a movie you watched or a computer game you've been playing at home. That's why it is good to prepare your mind before you go to church by praying and asking God to help you learn more about Him. God understands us because He made us. He knows that we are not perfect, yet He loves us the way we are. If you have given your life to God and you are following His ways, you are—and will always be—His child. All that's left now is for you to grow in your faith, and one of the ways you are doing that is by attending Sunday school.

  • To Benita (USA) - Things go wrong in life for various reasons. Sometimes we think that God is punishing us for something, or that He just doesn't care. Sometimes we blame God for not putting a stop to the horrible things in our lives. We live in an imperfect world, where things break and get old. We as people are imperfect: we forget things, lose things and mess up. These things may cause us a lot of problems, but they are not sin. Sin is when we are deliberately disobedient to God and we don't want to have a relationship with Him. This is not the case with you. You love God and want to do what is right. It is okay to question God about the bad stuff that's happening in your life. Many of the Psalms are the honest thoughts of someone who also couldn't understand why bad things were happening. 

    God has given everyone a free will--an ability to make decisions. Some people make bad decisions and hurt others, either deliberately or as a consequence of their choice. God is sad for people who suffer because of others. He wants to help them, just as He did when He freed the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. So, pray about what is happening and ask the Lord to help you - and although God will hear your prayers, things may not change straight away. But most of all, remember that the Lord loves you more than you could ever imagine. You are His precious child and He is watching over you day and night.

  • To Elizabeth (USA) - It must be very hard for you to keep growing in your faith when you're the only one in the family who believes. Because of your faith, the love of Jesus shines through you for all to see. Firstly, keep praying that the others in your family will also come to know Jesus as Lord of their lives. Often an entire family comes to the Lord through the faithful witness of a child. Secondly, stay spiritually strong by reading the Bible and by praying about everything in your life. If you cannot go to church, try to hang out with others who love Jesus. The Lord will hold on to you through all the ups and downs of life, and keep you from falling (Jude 1:24-25).

  • To Camille (USA) - When you became a Christian, the Holy Spirit came to live in you and your name was written in the book of Life in heaven. That means, you are a child of God and, when you die, you will go to live with Him. Remember, it's not what we do (or don't do) that gets us to heaven. Jesus is the one who saves us and takes away our sin and guilt. Although our changed hearts should want to do what is right, we do still sin. But that doesn't mean we will go to hell. No one can be perfect while on earth, yet God sees our hearts as clean and good because of the righteousness of Jesus in us. However, when we do sin we should immediately ask God to forgive us so that we can live with a clear conscience. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" 1 John 1:9.
